The district winner of the 2014 is Kingsport. Congratulations to , which was a finalist last year!

The State Collaborative on Reforming Education (SCORE) has announced the winners of the fourth annual SCORE Prize. The winners – three public schools and one district– were recognized for being leaders in student learning in Tennessee.

The 2014 SCORE Prize winners are:

  • • Dresden Elementary School, part of Weakley County Schools, in the elementary school category.
  • • Hillsboro Elementary/Middle School, part of Williamson County Schools, in the middle school category.
  • • Covington High School, part of Tipton County Schools, in the high school category.
  • • Kingsport City Schools, a system of 13 schools serving pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students.

The school winners receive $10,000 each, and the district winner receives $25,000.

The Kingsport City Schools’ Board of Education recently modified grading policy regarding the calculation of GPA’s and specifically the weight assigned to honors and AP courses.  Below is the new scale that became effective on October 2, 2014. This scale is retroactive for students in the graduating classes of 2015 and beyond.

ACT Online Prep
We are pleased to inform you that all Dobyns-Bennett students in grades 10-12  are being given the opportunity this school year to have FREE access to ACT’s Online Prep Program. This program includes:
*Practice tests with real ACT test questions
*Practice essays for the ACT writing test, with real-time scoring
*Comprehensive content review for each of the ACT’s four required tests-English, Math, Reading, and Science
*Diagnostic test and personalized study path
*Anywhere, anytime access via the internet
Every student has received his/her username and password at school. Please ask your student to share this information with you. We are encouraging your student to take advantage of this excellent resource. ACT scores help determine eligibility for college admission, scholarships and other types of financial aid, and can even determine whether or not your student will have to take remediation courses at his/her school of choice.  Test preparation is an important step towards better ACT test scores.  If you have any questions about this, please contact your student’s school counselor.
