ETSU to host Hispanic Student Day
JOHNSON CITY — On Wednesday, Oct. 8, East Tennessee State University will host the 15th annual Hispanic Student Day, beginning with opening ceremonies at 10 a.m. in the D.P. Culp Center’s Martha Street Auditorium.

The program for Hispanic high school students includes motivational speakers, inspirational videos, a bilingual theatrical presentation by students in the Latin American Theater class, as well as representatives of ETSU Hispanic student organizations and programs and the XCELL Mentoring Program.

A career tour beginning at 11:10 a.m. will give students hands-on experience with ETSU career tracks. Students will choose two departments to visit and will have small group sessions with instructors and mentors.

In addition to lunch at the Main Meal campus cafeteria, students have the opportunity to watch videos of other Hispanic students and their college experiences.

ETSU President Dr. Brian Noland and student athletes will meet with the visitors.

The event is presented by ETSU’s Language and Culture Resource Center (LCRC), with more than 130 students expected to attend from high schools in Johnson City, Greeneville, Unicoi County, Morristown, Kingsport and Elizabethton.

The program receives support and sponsorship from Northeast State Community College, Milligan College and King College.

For further information, contact Ines Galiano Torres, LCRC coordinator, at 423-439-8342 or galianotorre@goldmail.etsu.edu

For disability accommodations, call the ETSU Office of Disability Services at 423-439-8346.
Landed a plane in the Hudson River lately?  It’s amazing the success we can have at the controls when properly trained.  Playing host to the highly respected Accident Avoidance Workshops, Bristol Motor Speedway is providing that kind of behind-the-wheel training to new drivers this October 23, 25 and 26.

The Accident Avoidance Workshops offers an 8-hour, parent ride-along program in which students are trained on their own limitations and their vehicle’s limitations in “Emergency” Driving Conditions.  They’re taught how to get the most out of braking and maneuverability without ever losing control of themselves, or their vehicle.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to provide your student the proper training they need before you send them out on to the open road.  Visit www.AccidentAvoidanceWorkshops.org for more information or call 770-262-7009 to register today.
